Short answer
You can watch part of almost every DramaBox drama for free, but not a whole one. Across the 1,335 DramaBox series in our catalog in October 2026, a typical series runs 50 episodes and the first 9 are free. That is about 18% of the story, or roughly 12 minutes of a 70-minute series. We found no series that was free from start to finish. Everything after the free episodes is unlocked with coins, which you can buy or earn, or with a membership.
There are three legitimate ways to watch without paying: the free episodes in the app, the same free episodes on DramaBox’s website, and the longer previews DramaBox posts on its own YouTube channel. Free coins from tasks and ads can take you further, slowly.
How much of a DramaBox drama is free?
DramaBox’s website marks each episode as free or locked, and we record that marker for every DramaBox series we track. This is what it shows:
| Typical series | Middle half of series | |
|---|---|---|
| Episodes in the series | 50 | 40 to 58 |
| Free episodes | 9 | 7 to 10 |
| Share of the series that is free | 18% | 14% to 22% |
Episodes run about a minute and a half on average, so the free part of a typical series comes to around 12 minutes. The most common counts are 8, 9 and 10 free episodes. Only a handful of series give away fewer than 3, and the most generous we found gives away 26 of its 58.
These counts come from the website’s free-episode marker, which DramaBox can move during promotions, so the app may show a different number on a given day. They also measure episodes rather than story, and the free part tends to end right on a cliffhanger.
How DramaBox coins work
DramaBox runs on two kinds of coin. Its web wallet shows them as separate balances, Coins and Reward Coins. Coins are the ones you buy. Reward Coins are the ones you earn inside the app. When you reach a locked episode, the app asks you to spend coins to unlock it.
DramaBox’s terms of use say coins are for use in DramaBox only and “cannot be exchanged to any currency,” and that all fees are non-refundable. The terms don’t mention Reward Coins at all, so there is no published rule on whether earned coins expire.
DramaBox doesn’t publish the price of an episode. Its website has a coin-price field for every episode and sets it to zero, locked episodes included, and neither the terms nor the store listings give a coins-per-episode rate. The figures quoted around the web disagree with each other. The only reliable place to see what an episode costs is the unlock screen in the app.
Coins are sold as in-app purchases. On the US App Store, DramaBox lists “Special offer” purchases at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99, and memberships at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99. A membership is the other way through the paywall, and DramaBox itself points paying viewers toward it: in a reply to an App Store review, the developer wrote that a subscription “will unlock all dramas on our app, not just one drama.”
How to earn free coins on DramaBox
Free coins arrive as Reward Coins. In the same App Store reply, DramaBox’s developer named the two main sources: “completing tasks or simply by watching ads.” Its privacy policy lists what else it tracks to calculate coin rewards: your check-in history, the series you follow, whether you turned on push notifications and how long you watch.
None of it is quick. Ads are the most common subject in the app’s recent US App Store reviews, and the usual complaint is that an ad runs longer than the episode it unlocks. Still, it is the only way to get past the free episodes without paying. We go through each method, and the coin scams to avoid, in how to get free coins on DramaBox.
Watch DramaBox for free in your browser
You don’t need the app for the free episodes. DramaBox’s website has a page for every series with all its episodes listed, and the free ones play in full in a browser. A locked episode plays a 15-second preview instead, and its page says: “Watch the first 15s, download the app for the full episode.” Episode 12 of Love Is A Dangerous Game is one of them.
That makes the website handy on a laptop, or for trying a series before you install anything. It doesn’t unlock anything the app wouldn’t. To go past the free episodes, it sends you to the app.
Watch DramaBox dramas free on YouTube
DramaBox runs an official YouTube channel, “DramaBox - Stream Drama Shorts,” with about 16 million subscribers and more than 4,000 videos. It posts around two a day. The recent uploads we checked ran 13 to 22 minutes each. That is longer than the free episodes in the app, but well short of a full series, and every description we read opens with “Watch the full drama unfold” and a link to the app.
So YouTube gives you the longest free preview DramaBox offers, but it won’t get you to the end of a series. Stick to the official channel, because channels reposting whole DramaBox series are not DramaBox.
Is a DramaBox membership cheaper than coins?
It depends on how much you watch, and you can only work it out inside the app. Because the coin price of an episode isn’t published, compare the two on the unlock screen with the number of locked episodes in front of you. Buying coins makes sense when only a few locked episodes stand between you and the ending. A membership makes more sense when you plan to get through several series in the period it covers.
Before you subscribe, note that the App Store listing says the membership renews automatically unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the period ends, so if you only want one period, turn it off right after you subscribe. Nothing is refundable under DramaBox’s terms either. Our guide to how coins work explains how to cancel on iPhone and Android.
What doesn’t work
Coin generators, “unlimited coins” sites and modded versions of the DramaBox app don’t get you free episodes. Your coin balance sits on DramaBox’s servers, tied to your account, so nothing on an outside site can change it, and a modded app puts your account and your phone at risk. Sites streaming whole DramaBox series for free carry the same risks. The warning signs are in are short drama apps safe.
When you’re ready to go past the free episodes, open DramaBox and check the rewards area first. Our full DramaBox review covers the rest of the app.
FAQ
Is DramaBox free?
The app is free to download, and almost every series starts with free episodes, usually around 9. Watching the rest takes coins, earned Reward Coins or a membership.
Can I watch DramaBox without the app?
Yes, for the free episodes. They play in full on DramaBox’s website, and locked episodes show a 15-second preview there.
How many episodes can I unlock with free coins?
DramaBox doesn’t publish what an episode costs in coins or what a task or ad pays, so there’s no honest number to give. What reviews do agree on is that earning coins through ads is slow.
Does DramaBox post full episodes on YouTube?
It posts long previews, 13 to 22 minutes from the start of a series in the uploads we checked, each linking to the app for the rest.
Do DramaBox Reward Coins expire?
DramaBox’s terms of use don’t mention Reward Coins, so there’s no published rule either way. Check the wallet in the app, and spend earned coins before bought ones if it lets you choose.
